Thoughts on mitigating hate speech as California state policy (10/5/2024): We were prompted with "What is one state-level policy change you would recommend to prevent hate online or in K-12 schools?" for a convening hosted by California’s Commission on the State of Hate and the UCLA Initiative to Study Hate. I appreciated the chance to be unusually speculative and interpreted this as an inclusive "or," given that I feel the state has the most power to influence K-12, but the most effective interventions for K-12 in the digital age are going to need to focus on exposure to online hate.
